Taking It Too Far

While the Muslim world is filled with nutcases, even
Christians have a few psychos in the flock...check out
this crazy woman from this week's episode of trading
spouses. She should have her own show cause everybody
would tune in to watch this woman go ballistic each
week...in the name of Jesus none the less! I'd be in
stitches all the time around this woman. VERY funny!
And then there's this
guy...watch it all the way thru.

Lesson Learned: Don't Do
Wedding Sites
Posted by Jimmy :: Monday,

Comment On This Post
Now I know why they call them "bride-zillas"...I landed
a wedding site late last week from a couple in New York
which started out simple enough but quickly ballooned
into a nightmare. I designed a great looking website
(according to her specs none-the-less) but the
bride-to-be has been micro-managing every little aspect
of the design, making countless revisions and is quickly
turning a great website in an "o-k" website. I'm glad
I'm not in the wedding business cause I don't think I
could deal with "bride-zillas" on a daily basis.

How Smart Is
Your Foot?

This will boggle your mind. And you will keep trying it
at least 50 more times to see if you can outsmart your
foot. But you can't!!!
-
While sitting at your
desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make
clockwise circles with it.
-
Now, while doing
this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right
hand. Your foot will change direction!!!
I told you so... And
there is nothing you can do about it. :^) |

Losing The Internet
Posted by Jimmy :: Monday,
October 10h, 2005 :: 12:05 PM PST ::
Comment On This Post
Forget terrorism or bird flu, this is the most
frightening thing I can imagine. Ever since the
United States government created the internet, we
have maintained control of the it and been it's primary
guardians much to the dismay of the international
community. Put quite simply, there are a number of "root
servers" or computers (I think it's officially 13) that
allow the internet to work by controlling what's known
as
DNS which stands for Domain Name System. These root
servers tell the entire internet where to locate a site
when you type in say, ebay.com or jimmypowell.com.
The United States
government created a non-profit organization called
ICANN to oversee all domain names and IP Addresses and
coupled with our control of the "root servers" of the
internet, the United States in many ways "owns" the
internet and rightfully so seeing as how we invented it.
Even though we invented
the internet we have obviously shared it with the rest
of the world and never once abused our control of the
medium, the international community along with
the backing of the United Nations, is trying to force
the United States to give up our role as the guardians
of the internet and turn over control to a "body of
governments" who will assume the role we have been doing
flawlessly all this time.
The ramifications of this
are immense. The internet has become the most important
thing in the world today (think about it) and the
thought of it being controlled by an international body
of governments is pretty disturbing to me. Changes to
the way the internet works and who has rights to domain
names could be changed by an international body and
there would nothing we could do about it. The internet
could even be splintered into several internets meaning
that several people or companies could own the same
domain name depending on which internet you are on.
Considering that the top
10 internet companies (Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, Ebay,
etc.) are all American companies and based here, the
idea of American losing control of the internet's root
servers are simply terrifying. I'll be keeping an eye on
this story and praying that the United Nations doesn't
steal control of the internet from us.
Can anyone say penis
envy?

Weekend Update & Random Notes
Posted by Jimmy :: Sunday,
October 9th, 2005 :: 11:17 PM PST ::
Comment On This Post
As most of you can tell by the lack of updates lately,
I've been EXTREMELY busy and have more websites under
construction right now than ever before. In spite of all
that, I decided to take the entire weekend off and just
relax for a change. Spending 16 hours a day behind the
pc is starting to wreak havoc on my back and eyes so I'm
going to start limiting how much time I spend behind the
pc whenever possible. I also started seeing a back
specialist / posture couch last week to get my spine and
neck back in proper alignment so I won't be one of those
hunched over guys when I'm 80.
Getting back to the weekend...we did some prospecting
for holiday decor on Saturday (see previous post) and
went to Barnes & Nobile to pick up a few books we both
wanted. Yes, another exciting Saturday night at the book
store (ha-ha) but we actually enjoy it. I picked up a
few business books and the entire unabridged version of
the
Chronicles of Narnia since the most popular book
(The
Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe) is coming out
as a movie this December. Kim picked up a book on
scrapbooking as she's on the verge of diving into that
hobby.
On Sunday, we lounged around for the better part of the
day just watching TV and taking it easy. Eventually, I
got up and started installing some new lights we got for
the kitchen and went and bought groceries. Working from
home, I've truly become the "domestic goddess" in our
relationship (insert gay jokes here) and rather enjoy
keeping a clean house and cooking dinner most every
night. It's not so bad when you don't have to get up
each morning and "get ready" for work and then drive to
and from...my commute is about 20 feet and company
policy allows me to work in my boxers if I
choose...ha-ha!
We ended our weekend curled up on the sofa watching
Dateline and Inside The Actor's Studio. So that's our
weekend update for what it's worth! I can't promise many
posts this week (busy, busy, busy) but if something
come's up, I'm sure I'll find the time to share it with
ya! :^) |

Getting Ready For The Holidays

All
the big holidays are quickly approaching so we headed to
one of our favorite holiday stores called Stats to check
out their immense collection of Halloween, Thanksgiving
& Christmas decor. The had tons of cool Halloween stuff
and were just starting to put out the Christmas stuff.
Halloween is Kim's favorite holiday and Christmas is
mine so we both had a good time and plan to go back and
pick up a few things next weekend.
Here you can see me in some monster mask and Kim holding
one of the "smaller" skulls they had for sale...and
whispering something in Santa's ear. Wonder what she's
wishing for? :^) |

The Little Things . . .

Funny
how little things can still get you excited. I go to
lots of business networking events where you sign in at
the door and they give you a sticker with your name and
company on it to put on your shirt. I decided to get my
own name badge made for when I attend these events and
it came it today. It's just a magnetic name badge and as
insignificant as it may seem, it's the little things
like this that will set you apart at these events. I
made mine so that as soon as anyone saw it, they
wouldn't have to ask "What do you do?" As my badge
clearly states...I Do Websites! |

Happy
Birthday wishes going out to our good friend Chad Lloyd
today but more importantly...CONGRATS to Chad &
Sara on the birth of their baby girl today. What are the
odds of that? The baby was one month early but mother
and daughter are doing fine from what I understand. She
weighted 6.1lbs but no word on a name yet. I'll keep you
posted as I find out more.
Update: It's a girl and her name is Maya Jean
Lloyd
Update II: Just spoke with Chad and mother and
daughter are doing fine and he expects they'll both be
coming home sometime Wednesday afternoon and he plans to send
a picture by the end of the week. |

One
of the fun things about Photoshop is that you can make
some pretty cool composites from your photographs. I
combined one of my nighttime shots of the
Redondo Beach Pier with another photo of the
moon to create this surrealistic shot. I've got a couple
of different creations like this in mind and may even
have them printed on canvas for greater effect.

Where
There's Smoke . . .

A
lot of neighborhoods on the northern side of Los Angeles
were on fire last week as
wildfires swept thru the
foothills. A long, dark trail of smoke could be seen
blowing out over the ocean which actually made for a
pretty scene in spite of the destruction it was causing.
Luckily, we don't live close enough to any foothills to
worry about fires or mudslides.

First
Ever Giant Squid Captured On Film
Posted by Kim: Tuesday,

Comment On This Post
Being
a big science geek and having seen a dozen shows on
Architeuthis (Greek for chief squid) even I was beginning to
wonder if the world would ever see a real live giant
squid. It finally happened today when scientists in
Japan captured this 25 foot giant squid on camera as
they (ironically) used a smaller squid as bait. This one
is only about half grown as scientists have found dead
specimens as large as 60 feet. Kind of cool to know that
there are still a few "monsters" left in the world.
